2006-05-12, ThatGuy.com - Lake Orion, Mich. -- The government cannot protect the entire population in the event of an outbreak of bird flu, but there is a way for individuals to easily protect themselves, according to this expert.
The recent ABC-TV drama "Fatal Conflict: Bird Flu in America" has accomplished a good thing, says Tom Peters of Immune Assist 247.
"The show may have exaggerated things for the sake of entertainment, but it certainly did a good job of getting people talking and thinking about this critical issue," said Peters.
Even Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt watched the show and told ABC News that the country will not have vaccines for at least six months after an outbreak begins.
"Because we have to create a vaccine that is crafted to the individual virus, it will be at least six months before we have a vaccine. We don`t have the 300 million courses necessary to give every man, woman and child a course of the vaccine," Leavitt was reported as saying.
Peters warns that the public will suffer needlessly because of the expectation that the government will solve the problem and protect everyone.
"People need to become informed and take their own actions. Bird flu can be prevented without waiting for a government bird flu shot," said Peters.
Bird flu is an infection caused by avian influenza viruses. The H5N1 virus is a subtype of the influenza A virus that occurs in birds.
"Wild birds carry flu viruses in their intestines. Birds get flu viruses almost as commonly as people catch colds. The bird flu is just as contagious between birds as the common cold is among humans. When domesticated birds catch this bird flu, especially chickens, ducks, and turkeys, these birds get very sick and most die because they have less resistance than their wild relatives," explained Peters.
Peters says there are certain facts that virtually all experts agree on. Experts agree that the bird flu has to mutate before it will be a danger to humans, but they also agree that it is inevitable that it will mutate. The experts also agree that no one knows when that will happen, but when it does a world pandemic is likely. As stated by Leavitt, it will take six months or longer to produce a vaccine, and there will not be enough for everyone. Experts agree there is an expected mortality rate of 50 percent or greater.
The World Health Organization has released several reports on this coming pandemic. Their most optimistic scenario is that 2 million people will die worldwide, and the toll could potentially reach 150 million or higher.
Peters says it is easier to prevent the bird flu than to cure it. He has created a web site at http://www.ImmuneAssist247.com to inform the public. He offers a product that he claims will enable people to build up their immune system strong enough to fight off the bird flu and other problems as well.
"It is called Immune Assist 247. It is a immune system booster made from a combination of seven medicinal mushroom extracts. It is so effective the government of South Africa has approved its use for HIV treatment. The United Nations is negotiating for 130,000 dosages a day for the foreseeable future," said Peters.
